GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – February 28, 2015 – Sophomore guard
Will Morse scored a career high 23 points to lead the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team to a 90-76 win Saturday night at Brownson Arena in Grand Junction, Colo.
Both teams entered the night with identical records of 19-8 overall and 14-7 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. With the win, the Skyhawks are the fifth seed in the RMAC tournament and will play at No. 4 seed Colorado State-Pueblo on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round.
"This is a huge win for our program," said associate head coach
Bob Pietrack. "It's another 20-game win season. It's playoff time and we have a very large challenge with CSU-Pueblo."
Twenty-one of Morse's 23 points came from long range where he made 7-of-9 attempts. He went 2-for-2 from the free throw line and added three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Alex Herrera scored all 19 of his points in the first half. He recorded his 22
nd double-double of the season with 11 rebounds.
Cade Kloster went 2-for-6 from long range and made 8-of-9 free throws for 14 points. He also dished out a game high five assists and added two steals.
Rasmus Bach chipped in 12 points, four rebounds, two steals and an assist.
The Skyhawks netted 40.6 percent from the floor (26-of-64), 15-of-33 from long range (45.5 percent), and 23-of-27 free throws for 85.2 percent.
Fort Lewis held a 12-rebound advantage over CMU, 46-34, including 15-9 on the offensive glass.
The official RMAC tournament bracket will be announced later tonight.
