ALAMOSA, Colo. – March 29, 2015 – Adams State University handed the Fort Lewis College softball team two losses in Sunday's doubleheader in Alamosa, Colo. The Skyhawks lost game one, 8-4, and were shutout for the second time this weekend in the series finale, 8-0, in five innings.
"Things didn't go our way today," said head coach
Kira Zeiter. "Sometimes that is the way softball goes; your hits don't fall and it feels like you have to work extra hard for everything you get. This week we need to work extra hard to make things fall our way."
In Sunday's opening game, Adams State tallied two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Fort Lewis scored all four of their runs in the top of the second inning.
Tristen Gilbert was the leadoff batter in the second and reached base after drawing a walk. With two outs and Gilbert on third base and
Lauren Caldwell on first,
Denae Fisher hit a single to left field to score Gilbert.
Myndee Thompson added two more runs after hitting a double to left center that drove in Fisher and Caldwell.
Kaitlyn Bending also scored on the play after reaching third base and then scoring from a Grizzlies throwing error.

Mandy Owens, Caldwell and Fisher accounted for all five of the Skyhawks hits.
Victoria Johnson pitched six innings and struck out two batters. She allowed five earned runs on six hits.
In the series finale, the Skyhawks were held to four hits in five innings of action. The Grizzlies defense held FLC to a three-and-out series in three of the five innings. Caldwell accounted for two of the hits, with Owens and
Kiley Raica each adding one hit.
Raica started the game in the circle, pitching the first two outs before being relieved by
Olivia Goldberg. Raica allowed five earned runs on five hits. Goldberg surrendered three runs on nine hits.
Fort Lewis will return to Aspen Field this Friday and Saturday for a four game series against MSU Denver.
