Friday's matchup will feature Midwestern State Univeristy, ranked No. 20 in the NSCAA preseason poll. Sunday's opponent - St. Edward's University - is ranked No. 12 in the same poll.
Both teams are tied at 2-2-2 when playing on MSU's home field. The last time the Skyhawks defated MSU on their home field was Sept. 6, 2013.
FLC defeated the Mustangs, 3-0, in their last meeting, which was Sept. 5, 2014 at Dirks Field. The overall series is tied at 6-6-3.
Fort Lewis owns the all-time series against St. Edward's University, 7-2-2. FLC is 1-0-1 when playing at SEU.
The last time FLC faced St. Edward's at SEU was Sept. 8, 2013. The game ended in a double overtime tie, 3-3. The first (and last) win FLC had at SEU was Oct. 2, 2005 -- the same year the Skyhawks won their first of three NCAA Championships.
Fort Lewis returns five starters from last season: seniors
Ryan Schaul and
Zac Lawrence, juniors
Yannis Becker and
Luke Lawrence, and sophomore
Malik Badawi.
Becker, Badawi and the Lawrence brothers accounted for 62 of the Skyhawks 102 points (60.8 percent).
Goalkeeper
Ryan Schaul made 14 starts in goal last season, earning a 1.45 goals against average and notching three shutouts.
Head coach
Oige Kennedy begins his seventh year as head coach of the Skyhawks. Kennedy has led FLC to two NCAA National Championship titles (2009, 2011).
Kennedy begins the 2015 with a 90-31-7 record (.730). He is 10 wins away from meeting the century win mark for the Skyhawks.
Junior forward
Yannis Becker was selected the 2015 RMAC Men's Soccer Preseason Player of the Year. A 2014 Daktronics All-America selection, Becker was also chosen to the All-RMAC First Team, and to the NSCAA and Daktronics All-South Central First Teams. He led the league in shots and ranked second in points, goals and assists.
Junior
Luke Lawrence was also named to the 2015 RMAC preseason team. Lawrence earned NSCAA All-South Central Third Team honors and RMAC Honorable Mention accolades last season. He ranked fifth in the league in goals (nine), seventh in shots (56) and points (21), and eighth in assists (three).
As a team, the Skyhawks were voted to finish second in the league with 79 points. The Skyhawks finished the 2014 campaign with an 11-8-0 overall mark and a 9-5-0 conference record, tying them for second place in the league standings with Colorado Mines and Regis.
