DURANGO, Colo. – January 2, 2016 – For only the fifth time in program history, the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team defeated MSU Denver at home. The Skyhawks, ranked No. 20 in the latest NABC poll, posted a 77-63 win over the Roadrunners Saturday night at Whalen Gymnasium.
FLC improves to 11-1 overall and 6-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners move to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in conference games.
The last home win over MSUD was Feb. 22, 2013. FLC defeated the Roadrunners, who were then ranked No. 1 in the country and undefeated, 61-54.
Senior guard
Cade Kloster scored a game high 23 points. Kloster buried 8 of 12 field goals and 4 of 7 from long range. He pulled down five rebounds and dished out three assists. Junior guard
Joshua Blaylock added 15 points, a game high six assists and two steals.
Will Morse came off the bench to post 16 points. Morse made 4 of 6 field goals, 3 of 5 three-point field goals and 5 of 6 free throws.
FLC was solid from the floor, netting 49 percent in field goals (24-49), 48 percent from three-point range (12-25) and 81 percent from the charity stripe (17-21). Defensively, the Skyhawks held the Roadrunners to a 39 field goal shooting percentage and only 13.3 percent from long range (2-15).
The Skyhawks will begin a four game road trip Jan. 8-9 at Colorado Christian University and Colorado School of Mines.
