– The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team snapped MSU Denver's four game winning streak Saturday night at Whalen Gymnasium, 63-55. The Skyhawks improve to 8-4 on the season and 4-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. The Roadrunners drop to 6-7 overall and 4-3 in the league.
FLC led for more than 32 minutes as they held the Roadrunners to a 37 percent shooting mark from the floor (20-54) and a season low free throw shooting percentage of .529 (9-17).
Astrea Reed led the Skyhawks in scoring for the third time this season with 14 points. She also dished out a game high five assists to go with two steals.
Mary Rambo and
Kate Bayes tallied a team high eight rebounds each. Rambo chipped in five points and Bayes scored 10.
Alyssa Yocky came off the bench to score 10 points after being perfect from the floor on all four field goal attempts and making 1 of 2 free throws.
FLC made 23 of 57 field goals for 40.4 percent and 15 of 20 free throws for 75 percent. FLC's largest lead of the game (13 points) came with 8:01 left in regulation. The Skyhawks dominated the paint play, outscoring MSUD 34-16.
Fort Lewis will play the next four games on the road, beginning Jan. 8-9 at Colorado Christian University and Colorado School of Mines.
