LAKEWOOD, Colo. – January 8, 2016 – A 14-point second quarter lead by the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team was evaporated late in the fourth quarter as Colorado Christian University came from behind to hand the Skyhawks a 72-69 road loss Friday night at CCU Event Center in Lakewood, Colo. FLC drops to 8-5 overall and 4-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
"We played well in the first half," said head coach
Jason Flores. "We stuck to our game plan and then we got away from that. In the fourth quarter we got rattled. We need to learn how to finish games. We have to come back tomorrow and battle hard and try to finish the game."
The Skyhawks led 40-26 in the second quarter and led for 86.6 percent of the game (34:38) before the Cougars made their fourth quarter comeback. CCU's Taylor Torres made two free throws with 2:37 to tie the game at 67-67. Torres then nailed a three-pointer 31 seconds later to give CCU the lead for the remainder of the game.
Mary Rambo and
Dallas Dickerson scored a team high 15 points each. Rambo was perfect in the game, making all six field goal attempts and all three free throws. Dickerson chipped in 5 of 8 field goals, 3 of 6 three-point field goals and made both free throw attempts. She was one rebound shy of a double-double.
FLC made 42.4 percent from the floor after hitting 28 of 66 field goals. The Skyhawks made all eight free throw attempts, but shot 17 fewer free throws than CCU (19 of 25).
Fort Lewis will travel to Colorado School of Mines on Saturday. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m.
