Skyhawks Upset Bid at Colorado Mines Falls Short, 65-63

GOLDEN, Colo. – January 9, 2016 – The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team was three points shy of handing Colorado School of Mines their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference loss and snapping their 10 game winning streak, but the Skyhawks fell short Saturday in Golden, 65-63.

"It's a little frustrating to lose the game that way," said head coach Jason Flores.  "We battled hard and came back.  Syndi (Brandon) gutted out a performance and played well for us.  We played hard and did what we had to do to win the game."

Kate Bayes nailed a three-pointer with 1:42 left in regulation to give FLC a 61-60 lead.  Dallas Dickerson added two more points on the Skyhawks next possession for a three point FLC lead.

The Orediggers capitalized on a Skyhawks technical foul that resulted in two made free throws.  The ensuing free throw tied the game at 63-63.  CSM's Courtney Martin hit a layup with 11 ticks left in the game to seal the win for CSM as they improve to 11-2 overall and 9-0 in the league.

FLC drops to 8-6 overall and 4-5 in the RMAC after suffering their first back-to-back losses of the season.

Astrea Reed made 8 of 18 field goals for a team high 18 points.  Syndi Brandon came off the bench to net 11 points and dish out a team high three assists.  Kylie Santos and Dallas Dickerson each scored 10 points to round out four Skyhawks in double figures.

FLC made 23 of 62 field goals for 37.1 percent and 11 of 14 free throws for 78.6 percent.  The Skyhawks scored 12 points off of 14 CSM turnovers.  FLC's bench edged CSM's in scoring, 29-26.

Fort Lewis will continue their four game road streak when they travel to Colorado Mesa University and Westminster College January 15-16.
