Epic Comeback Leads to School Record

DURANGO, Colo. – December 2, 2016 – A double-digit deficit resulted in an epic comeback Friday night for the No. 20 Fort Lewis College men's basketball team as they defeated Colorado State-Pueblo in overtime, 105-97.  The win marked the Skyhawks 22nd consecutive home win, breaking the previous record set from Nov. 28, 1977 to Jan. 8, 1979.
 
FLC trailed by 18 points with 12:52 left in regulation before recording a 41-23 comeback that tied the game in regulation, 89-89.  The Skyhawks dominated overtime, outscoring the Pack 16-8.  FLC made 5-of-6 field goals, 3-of-4 three-point field goals and 3-of-4 free throws in the extra stanza.
 
Rasmus Bach carried the Skyhawks in the second half.  After trailing by 18 points, FLC went on a 28-9 run to take their first lead of the game with 4:56 left in regulation on Will Morse's layup.
 
In FLC's 28-9 run, Bach netted 13 points, including 7-for-7 form the free throw line.  Joshua Blaylock chipped in eight points in the run, making two three-point field goals and two free throws.
 
The Skyhawks found themselves down again by five points with 1:46 left in the game.  Blaylock made one of his seven three-point field goals to cut the deficit down to two points, 84-86.  Two more free throws by CSUP gave them an 88-84 lead with 30 seconds left in the game.  Blaylock made one of two free throws to bring FLC within three points, 88-85. 
 
Alex Semadeni stole the ball on the ensuing throw in by CSUP that led to a Pack foul and two more made free throws by Blaylock.  Down 88-87 with 11 ticks on the clock, FLC intentionally fouled CSUP, resulting in one of two made free throws.  Bach was clutch again, making the game-tying layup from Morse's assist with one second remaining.
 
The Skyhawks never trailed in overtime.  Blaylock tallied eight points after making both three-point field goal attempts and both free throw attempts.  Bach added four points on 2-of-2 field goal shooting and Daniel Hernandez netted one of FLC's three three-pointers.
 
Blaylock led all scorers with 34 points, 21 of which came from three-point range.  He made 7-of-8 free throws and tied for game high honors with Morse in assists with five.  Twelve of Bach's 28 points came from the free throw line where he made 12-of-13.  He added a game high 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the year. Semadeni scored a career high 13 points after making 6-of-8 field goals. 
 
The Skyhawks shot 45.3 percent from the floor and 40.7 percent from long range.  FLC pulled down eight more rebounds than the Pack, 42-34, including 16-6 on the offensive glass as they outscored the Pack, 21-10, on second chance points.
 
The win improves the Skyhawks to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  CSU-Pueblo drops to 2-4 overall.
 
FLC will face New Mexico Highlands Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at Whalen Gymnasium.
