No. 17 FLC Upset at Regis, 78-76

DENVER – December 31, 2016 – The 17th-ranked Fort Lewis College men's basketball team's 12-game winning streak was snapped Saturday night at Regis University, 78-76.  The loss moves the Skyhawks to 11-2 overall and 6-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  Regis University improves to 10-3 overall and 4-3 in league games.
 
The Skyhawks last lead of the game came with 11:43 left in regulation on Alex Semadeni's layup.  RU responded with an 8-0 run to take a 65-56 lead.  Joshua Blaylock nailed a three-pointer to tie the game at 73-73 with 1:38 left in the game, but Regis closed the game making three free throws and a layup to seal the win, 78-76.
 
Rasmus Bach netted a game high 23 points.  Bach made 7-of-9 field goals and 9-of-11 free throws while adding nine rebounds and two assists.
 
Blaylock notched 21 points on 7-of-14 field goals, including three three-pointers.  Daniel Hernandez came off the bench to chip in 13 points and Semadeni finished with 10 points and six caroms to round out the Skyhawks in double figures.
 
FLC was held to only 1-of-7 three-point field goals in the first half but made 4-of-9 in the final 20 minutes to end the game with a 31.3 percent from long range.  Overall from the floor, the Skyhawks hit 27-of-47 field goals and 17-of-26 free throws.
 
The Rangers took advantage of 18 FLC turnovers and scored 15 points.  The Skyhawks were edged in rebounds, 34-33, but RU held a 12-5 offensive rebounding advantage and outscored FLC on second chance points, 14-2.
 
Fort Lewis will travel to MSU Denver Jan. 6 and UCCS Jan. 7.
