CANYON, Texas – February 13, 2016 – The Fort Lewis College softball team charted their third victory of the season Saturday morning with an 8-3 win over Eastern New Mexico University. The Skyhawks fell in the second game of the day to Texas Woman's University, 10-1, in six innings.
Senior pitcher
Victoria Johnson earned her third win in the circle after pitching a complete game. Johnson improves to 3-1 after allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and fanning 10 batters.
With two outs in the bottom of the first,
Tristen Gilbert hit a single to center field to score
Missy Fundora that knotted the game, 1-1.
After trailing 2-1 in the third inning, FLC took the lead in the bottom of the inning after
Angelique Elemen hit a two run home run to left field that scored Fundora again.
The Skyhawks added one more run in the fifth inning after Elemen hit a single to center field to score Fundora for her third run of the game. FLC tabbed four more runs in the sixth inning. With bases loaded and two outs,
Adriana Rosthenhausler singled to center field to drive home
Lauren Caldwell.
Mandy Owens then scored from third base on a wild pitch followed by
Gianna Melaragno scoring on a wild pitch.
Tristen Gilbert sealed the win with a double to left field that brought home Rosthenhausler for an 8-3 win.
Elemen, Gilbert and Caldwell each accounted for two hits as FLC out hit ENMU, 10-6. Fundora led all players with three runs.
In the second game of the day, the Skyhawks dropped a 10-1, six inning decision to Texas Woman's University.
FLC was held to five hits against the Pioneers. Melaragno recorded the only run for FLC when Elemen hit a double to drive her home in the fifth inning. Rachel Foos recorded the loss in the circle after pitching the first 3.1 innings and allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits.
The Skyhawks will wrap up the West Texas A&M University Lady Buffs Invitational Sunday against Angelo State University at 9:30 a.m., and Lubbock Christian University at 11:45 a.m.
