SILVER CITY, N.M. – February 20, 2016 – An 11 point road win against Western New Mexico University helped the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team clinch a spot in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship tournament. With one regular season game remaining, the Skyhawks are 12-9 in the RMAC and 16-10 overall.
"We're pleased that we were able to come on the road and get two wins to wrap up a spot in the tournament," said head coach
Jason Flores. "Our defensive pressure really turned the tide of the game and led us to this win. We can't wait to get back to Durango and get ready for an always special senior night."
The game featured eight lead changes and seven ties. The Skyhawks led for more than 24 minutes and scored at least 20 points in the final three stanzas.
Dallas Dickerson came off the bench to lead all scorers with 22 points. Dickerson made 6-of-9 field goals, 4-of-5 three-point field goals and 6-of-7 free throws. She added two steals, two rebounds, an assist and blocked one shot.
Astrea Reed tapped in 16 points to go with her five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
The Skyhawks were solid from the floor, making 45.6 percent (26-of-57), including 50 percent from long distance (8-of-16). FLC dished out 21 assists compared to WNMU's nine assists. FLC's bench outscored the Mustangs by 36 points, 40-4.
FLC will play their final home game of the season next Friday against Adams State University. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
