Strong Second Half Boosts Skyhawks to Win at BHSU, 80-73

SPEARFISH, S.D. – February 6, 2016 – Trailing by as many as 10 points in the first half, the 15th-ranked Fort Lewis College men's basketball team used a strong second half to earn their seventh straight win of the season and improve to 19-3 overall and 14-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

"We're really proud of our team coming this far from home and getting two road wins," said head coach Bob Pietrack. "We played through the adversity that this type of trip brings, and to come away with two wins is incredible."

FLC trailed the entire first half and were down by as many as 10 points in the opening stanza.  The Skyhawks made only one of 12 three-point field goal attempts in the first half and went into halftime trailing by four, 40-36.

The second half told a different story for the Skyhawks as they sank six threes and made 12 of their 17 free throws in the second half.  FLC finished the game shooting 45.9 percent from the floor (28-of-61), 28 percent from long range (7-of-25) and 73.9 percent from the charity stripe (17-of-23).  The Yellow Jackets started out strong from the floor in the first half, shooting 51.7 percent (15-of-29) and 43.8 percent from long range (7-of-16), but the Skyhawks defense shutdown BHSU's hot shooting performance in the second half, holding the Yellow Jackets to a 36.7 field goal shooting mark and only 18.2 percent from long distance (2-of-11).

Joshua Blaylock led four Skyhawks in double figures with a game high 22 points.  Kody Salcido came off the bench to record a career high 16 points on 6-of-10 field goals and netting all four free throw attempts.  Rasmus Bach added 13 points and 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double.  Cade Kloster chipped in 10 points.   All nine of Will Morse's points came from behind the arc as he added four assists, two steals and two rebounds.

FLC will play host to Western State Colorado University on Feb. 12 and Colorado State University-Pueblo on Feb. 13.  Both games will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
