SPEARFISH, S.D. – March 12, 2016 – Senior pitcher
Victoria Johnson allowed one hit in Saturday's opening game at Black Hills State University to lead the Fort Lewis College softball team to a 2-0 win in game one of the doubleheader. The Skyhawks fell in game two, 5-2.
The win was Johnson's fifth win in the circle this season. She also struck out six batters.
Angelique Elemen accounted for both runs against the Yellow Jackets. She scored the first run of the game in the second inning after
Lauren Caldwell batted her in. She then hit a dinger in the sixth inning for the second and final run of the game.
Elemen finished the game going 3-for-3 at the plate. Klepfer and
Gianna Melaragno added two hits each as the Skyhawks posted nine hits against BHSU.
In game two, both of the Skyhawks runs came in the first inning when Elemen and
Missy Fundora scored two unearned runs.
BHSU scored two runs in the second and three in the sixth to earn the split against the Skyhawks.
Caldwell recorded two of the Skyhawks four hits.
Olivia Goldberg worked the first 4.1 innings in the circle, allowed one earned run on three hits.
FLC will face off against the Yellow Jackets again tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
