SPEARFISH, S.D. – March 13, 2016 – The Fort Lewis College softball team and Black Hills State University combined for 14 runs Sunday afternoon in doubleheader action. FLC took game one, 7-1, before being shutout in game two, 7-0.
In game one,
Adriana Rosthenhausler put the Skyhawks on the board in the top of the first inning off of
Denae Fisher's double.
Angelique Elemen made the score 2-0 after hitting a solo shot to left field for her seventh home run of the season.
In the top of the third inning, Rosthenhausler doubled to left field that scored
Gianna Melaragno. Elemen then added her second run batted in of the game when she drove home Rosthenhausler to give FLC a 4-0 lead after three innings.
The Skyhawks plated two more runs in the following inning. With two outs, Melaragno singled to center field to score
Nikki Klepfer. Melaragno scored the second run of the inning on a wild pitch for a 6-0 lead.
Fort Lewis' seventh and final run of the game came in the sixth inning. Melaragno scored off of
Missy Fundora's single for her second score of the day.
BHSU's lone run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning off of a sacrifice fly.
The Skyhawks tallied 12 hits in game one. Elemen posted three hits followed by Fundora, Fisher and Melaragno with two hits each.
Victoria Johnson went the distance in the game, allowing one run on four hits and fanning four batters.
In the series finale, the Skyhawks were held to six hits and shutout for the fourth time this season. Caldwell led FLC with two hits after going 2-for-2 at the plate.
Rachel Foos took the loss in the circle, pitching the first 5.1 innings and allowing five earned runs and 11 hits.
The Skyhawks will play host to New Mexico Highlands University and Colorado School of Mines in RMAC pod play March 19-20 at Aspen Field.
