Victoria Johnson and senior outfielder
Missy Fundora broke two career records Sunday to lead the Fort Lewis College softball team to a 7-4 win against Colorado School of Mines.
Johnson started the game in the circle and pitched the first 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out four batters to earn her seventh win of the season. The win also marked her 37
th career win, breaking Kassie Haubert's career record of 36.
Fundora, who tied Chelsea Rodriguez' career record of 204 hits, broke the record on her second at-bat against the Orediggers when she doubled to right center in the second inning.
Angelique Elemen started the Skyhawks scoring with two runs batted in in the bottom of the first inning. Elemen doubled down the left field line to score
Denae Fisher and
Adriana Rosthenhausler. She added another run when she hit her ninth home run of the season in the third inning to give FLC a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Rosthenhausler reached base on a fielder's choice to score
Mandy Owens with the bases loaded.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth and bases loaded, Fundora hit a single to left field that scored Robin Young and
Tristen Gilbert. Rosthenahusler then scored
Gianna Melaragno on a single up the middle for three more runs.
The Skyhawks held a 7-2 lead after five innings. CSM added three runs in the sixth but FLC held the Orediggers scoreless in the seventh inning to seal the win, 7-4.
New Mexico Highlands University recorded their only win on the weekend in the final game of the pod, shutting out the Skyhawks, 6-0.
FLC was held to six hits as six different Skyhawks notched one hit each. Gilbert and Owens each posted a double against the Cowgirls.
In the neutral site game between Colorado Mines and New Mexico Highlands, the Orediggers run-ruled the Cowgirls in five innings, 12-1.
The Skyhawks will travel to MSU Denver March 25-26 for two doubleheaders. First pitch each day will go out at 12 p.m.
