Eagles Outhit Skyhawks in Saturday's Doubleheader

CHADRON, Neb. – April 2, 2016 – Chadron State College outhit the Fort Lewis College softball team 19-9 to sweep the Skyhawks Saturday afternoon in doubleheader action at the CSC Softball Field in Chadron, Neb.  The Skyhawks lost game one, 4-2, and game two, 10-2 (six innings). 
 
FLC moves to 10-25 overall and 7-15 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The Eagles, who are third in the league standings, improve to 20-14-1 overall and 14-8 in league games.
 
The Skyhawks opened game one with one run in the first inning. Angelique Elemen reached first base on an error with two outs that scored Missy Fundora from second base.
 
CSC scored all four of their runs in the second inning, three of which came on a home run. 
 
The Skyhawks scored their second and final run of the game in the sixth inning.  Fundora led off the inning striking out but reached first base on an error by the catcher.  She finished the inning scoring a run from second base on an error from the centerfielder.
 
Victoria Johnson pitched the complete game, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out four batters.  Elemen and Tehenia Telliano accounted for both of the Skyhawks hits.
 
In game two, Elemen hit her ninth home run of the season to score Telliano.
 
Elemen and Lauren Caldwell each recorded two hits to account for four of FLC's seven hits against CSC.
 
The Eagles plated at least one run in every inning, including three runs in the fifth inning.
 
Olivia Goldberg started in the circle for FLC, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing six earned runs on 12 hits.
 
Both teams will face each other again Sunday morning in doubleheader action.  First pitch will go out at 11 a.m.
