Skyhawks Shutout Mustangs in Game One, 3-0; Fall in Game Two, 10-7

AZTEC, N.M. – April 9, 2016 – Senior Victoria Johnson pitched her third shutout of the season Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 win over Western New Mexico University.  FLC fell in game two 10-7.  Today's doubleheader was moved to Aztec High School in Aztec, N.M. after a heavy downpour before the series was scheduled to start made Aspen Field unplayable.
 
In the opening game, Tehenia Telliano hit her first home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning to give FLC a 1-0 lead.  Telliano added another run batted in in the bottom of the first inning after singling to right field to score Gianna Melaragno.  The third and final run of the game was scored by Missy Fundora who stole home.
 
Telliano went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs batted in and a run scored. 
 
The Skyhawks outhit the Mustangs, 7-6.
 
Johnson pitched the complete game shutout, fanning six batters and allowing six hits.
 
In game two, Western New Mexico plated five runs on five hits in the top of the third inning to take a 5-0 lead. 
 
FLC answered in the fourth inning with four runs.  With the bases loaded, Laura Ashe entered the game as a pinch hitter and hit a sacrifice fly to score Angelique Elemen.  Melaragno added two more runs off of a single to center field that plated Nikki Klepfer and Tristen GilbertAdriana Rosthenhausler brought home Melaragno on a single for the fourth run of the inning.
 
WNMU came back in the fifth inning and added two runs on a home run, followed by three more runs in the sixth inning for a 10-4 lead.
 
Elemen posted a two run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning that scored Fisher.  Gilbert scored her second run of the game on a passed ball, but FLC fell short, 10-7.
 
Johnson started the game in the circle before Megan Redd relieved her in the third inning.  Melaragno saw her first action of the season at pitcher, working one-third of an inning.
 
Johnson also posted her first career at-bat, when she came to the plate in the sixth inning (grounded out to second base).
 
Fundora and Klepfer each recorded two hits to lead the Skyhawks.  Elemen and Gilbert crossed home plate twice with Fundora, Elemen and Melaragno each batting in two runs.
