DURANGO, Colo. – January 13, 2017 – A one-point decision led to a 53-52 setback Friday night for the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team at Whalen Gymnasium. The Skyhawks fell to Black Hills State University for their second straight loss.
The Skyhawks last lead of the game was 49-47 with 3:37 left in regulation. Trailing by three points with one minute to go,
Shelby Patterson made 1-of-2 free throws followed by
Briana Clah's layup with 15 ticks left to tie the game, 52-52.
BHSU's Kassidy Scott scored the winning point from the free throw line with four ticks remaining to seal the win for the Yellow Jackets, 53-52.
The loss moves FLC to 12-4 overall and 7-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Black Hills State University improves to 5-10 overall and 5-6 in the RMAC.
Briana Clah and
Kayla Herrera led the team with 12 points each. Herrera's 12-point, 11-rebound performance marked her third double-double of the season.
Alyssa Yocky recorded three of the Skyhawks five blocks. She added seven points and seven rebounds.
FLC finished the game making 31.5 percent from the floor (17-of-54) and 17.6 percent from behind the arc.
The Skyhawks will remain home Saturday night to face South Dakota School of Mines and Technology at 5:30 p.m.
