DURANGO, Colo. – January 21, 2017 – A 23-point win over Chadron State College (87-64) Saturday night marked the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team's 28
th straight win at Whalen Gymnasium. The Skyhawks, ranked No. 21 in Division II, are now 17-3 overall and 12-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Skyhawks 17-3 record is the third time in program history FLC has started 17-3 in their first 20 games of a season. Head coach
Bob Pietrack, in his second year at the helm, recorded a 17-3 start last season. The first time FLC recorded a 17-3 record was in 2007-08.
Rasmus Bach and
Daniel Hernandez led FLC with 13 points each. Bach added 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double this season. Hernandez notched 4-of-7 field goals and all three free throw attempts while dishing out three assists and grabbing five rebounds.
Joshua Blaylock added 12 points and a game high five assists, and
Riley Farris came off the bench to net 11 points.
The Skyhawks finished the game shooting 48.5 percent from the floor (32-of-66) and 89.5 percent from the charity stripe (17-of-19).
FLC never trailed in the game and led by as many as 30 points in the second half.
Darius Polley of Chadron State led all players with 26 points.
FLC posted a 42-29 rebounding advantage, including an 11-4 rebounding advantage on the offensive glass.
Fort Lewis will play one game next weekend when they travel to Colorado Christian University on Jan. 28. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
