Daniel Hernandez tied a career high 19 points to help No. 16 Fort Lewis College men's basketball team earn their first win of the season. The Skyhawks defeated Western New Mexico University Sunday afternoon, 75-62, in the Dreamstyle Arena in Albuquerque, N.M.
Hernandez made 7-of-10 field goals, including 5-of-7 from three-point range and added five rebounds and two assists.
Brandon Wilson recorded his first double-double of the season with 15 rebounds and 10 points. Six of his 10 points came from the charity stripe (6-of-8).
Rasmus Bach hit all five of his free throw attempts as part of his 11 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double.
DJ Miles came off the bench to score 11 points as four Skyhawks scored in double digits. He was part of a bench unit that out-scored WNMU's bench, 29-12.
FLC led the Mustangs for more than 35 minutes, and led by as many as 17 points in the first half.
Fort Lewis out-rebounded the Mustangs, 52-38, including 12-7 on the offensive glass.
The Skyhawks will open their home season against Northern New Mexico on Nov. 16.
