SALT LAKE CITY – February 24, 2017 – A strong first quarter start led to a four-point win on the road as the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 65-61 win at Westminster College Friday night. The Skyhawks finish the regular season 21-6 overall and 16-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Westminster's season ends at 10-14 overall and 8-13 in league games.
FLC jumped to a 20-5 lead in the first quarter but the Griffins started the second stanza on a 10-1 run. The Skyhawks led 34-27 after one half of action.
FLC was outscored in the second half, 34-31, but held on for the four point win.
Kayla Herrera led the Skyhawks with 18 points. She scored 12 of her 18 points from long range on 4-of-6 shooting.
Briana Clah added 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Shelby Patterson made 6-of-6 free throws as part of her 13 points.
Alyssa Yocky pulled down eight rebounds and added eight points, five steals and a blocked shot.
Westminster outrebound FLC, 47-36, behind Aubrie Vale's 17 rebounds.
The Skyhawks scored 22 points off of the Griffins 17 turnovers.
FLC will await Saturday's results for final seedings in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.
