GUNNISON/GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team will finish-up their four-game road trip with a pair of in-state games against Western Colorado University on Friday at 3 p.m. and then against Colorado Mesa University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Following the road trip, FLC will return home to Dirks Field to face CSU-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands (Senior Day).
The Skyhawks are 4-8-1 overall on the season and 3-6 in RMAC play. Entering this week, FLC is 11th in the conference standings, just three points back of both Dixie State and Colorado Christian who are currently tied for seventh and eighth in the standings. The top-eight teams make the RMAC Tournament field, with the top four teams hosting a first round game.
The Skyhawks played a pair of tough games in Utah this past weekend falling just short to both Westminster (2-0) and Dixie State (3-0). Prior to those games, FLC went to overtime with MSU Denver with the Roadrunners claiming the 1-0 victory.
As a team, FLC has 13 goals, 123 shots and 57 on net. Opponents counter with 22 goals, 199 shots and 85 on net. Renee Terrell, Britney Johnson and Emma Patron lead the team with six points apiece, as Terrell and Johnson each have three goals, while Patron has a goal and four assists. Courtney Wamboldt, Katie Smith and Dylan Barker have four points apiece, with Wamboldt tallying a goal and two assists, while Smith and Barker have two goals each. Smith has logged the most minutes at 1,191, followed by 1,127 from Megan Trent. In net, both Britt Blomso and Kaylee Mickens have seen time with Blomso logging 826 minutes with a 1.53 goals against average, 32 saves and a 4-4-1 record, along with two shutouts and one combined. Mickens has played in 369 minutes with a 1.95 goals against average, 31 saves and a .795 save percentage. She has one combined shutout with Blomso from the game against Black Hills State.
As a team, FLC ranks high in a few RMAC categories including sixth in saves per game (4.85), seventh in shutout percentage (.231), ninth in assists per game (0.77), ninth in total assists (10) and ninth in win-loss percentage (.346). Individually, Patron is fifth in the RMAC in total assists (4), Blomso is 13th in the RMAC in total saves (32), while Mickens is 14th in the RMAC in the same category (31).
Last year, FLC beat Western 2-1 in Durango, as Terrell and Meredith Curran scored the goals. The Skyhawks held a 11-8 edge on shots and shots on goal were even at seven apiece. The earlier meeting in the season took place in Gunnison and Western pulled out the 1-0 victory. The Mountaineers held a 17-16 shot advantage, but FLC held a 10-9 edge on goal. Mia Castaneda led the way with five shots, followed by four from Alicia Sanchez and three from Patron.
Western Colorado University is currently in the mix for a conference tournament spot with 10 conference points as they hold a 3-5-1 RMAC record and 3-9-1 overall mark. The Mountaineers are 2-2 at home this season with wins against Black Hills State and Colorado Christian and losses to Colorado School of Mines (1-0) and Regis (2-0). In their last three games they lost by a goal to Colorado Mesa, tied CSU-Pueblo and then defeated New Mexico Highlands (3-1).
As a team, Western Colorado University has scored 10 goals, with 127 shots and 64 on goal. Opponents have scored 20 goals, with 203 shots and 109 on goal. Individually, Megan Wheelock leads the team with seven points, scoring three goals and adding an assist. Alex Mason has four points on a pair of goals. Five other players have scored at least a goal. Emilie Eckhart leads the team in minutes logging 1,173 minutes, followed by 1,149 from Kimberlee Bourelle. In net, Eckhart has started all 13 games this year and has a 1.53 goals against average, with 88 saves and a .815 save percentage.
To close the week, FLC will face Colorado Mesa. The Skyhawks defeated the Mavericks in Durango 3-1 last year. Jackie Storm, Ally Holloway and Alicia Sanchez all had goals for FLC. The Skyhawks were outshot 15-14, but held a 7-6 in terms of shots on goal. The last meeting in Grand Junction back in 2016, Colorado Mesa claimed the 2-1 victory.
Colorado Mesa is 5-5-3 overall on the season and 3-4-2 in RMAC play, also currently in the mix for a conference tournament spot with 11 points. Over their past four games, they tied both Black Hills State and New Mexico Highlands, but defeated Western and CSU-Pueblo in a pair of shutouts.
As a team, Colorado Mesa has 14 goals on 223 shots, with 98 landing on goal. Opponents have 16 goals on 187 shots, with 84 landing on net. Ryanne Parker and Lauren Thompson lead the team in points with seven apiece, as both have three goals and an assist. Alexis Allard adds six points with two goals and two assists, while Lexi Newton and Zoe Peterson have five points, tallying two goals and an assist. Jocelyn Ceccarelli leads the team in minutes at 1,162, with Allard right behind with 1,123. In goal, Emily Signorio has seen the most time with 560 minutes, posting a 0.64 goals against average and 31 saves. She has a 3-2-1 record and three shutouts. Janelle Richmond-Buccola and Kamrie Gunderson each have a win in goal this season. Signorio has played in the past three games in goal.
A look around the RMAC has Colorado School of Mines as the only undefeated team at 10-0, followed by UCCS in second at 9-1, Westminster third at 7-2, MSU Denver fourth at 7-3, Regis fifth at 6-3, CSU-Pueblo sixth at 4-4-1, Dixie State seventh at 4-5 and Colorado Christian eighth at 4-6. Colorado Mesa is currently ninth at 3-4-2, Western is 10th at 3-5-1 and Fort Lewis 11th at 3-6.
