Begay Announces Resignation as Head Golf Coach

DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis College Director of Athletics Barney Hinkle announced today that Skyhawks Head Golf Coach Guy Begay has resigned. Associate Head Coach Jim Foltz will serve as interim coach for the remainder of the season.

"Guy has decided to resign his position as head men's and women's golf coach at Fort Lewis College," said Hinkle.  "We wish Guy and his family much happiness and success in their future endeavors."

Begay had served as head coach of both the men's and women's golf teams since August 2014. This past year, both teams placed sixth at the RMAC Championships and women's golf hosted the NCAA Division II South Central Regional at Hillcrest Golf Course.

In his third year at the helm, Begay coached the men's team to a fifth place finish at the RMAC Men's Golf Championship in the 2016-17 season. A year earlier, he had coached the women's team to an eighth place finish at the RMAC Women's Golf Championship in the 2015-16 season. Six Skyhawks earned RMAC post-season awards and eight were named to the Academic All-RMAC team.

A 2004 graduate of Fort Lewis College, Begay competed on the Skyhawks men's golf team from 2000-2004.  He has played a role in two of the Skyhawks five Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships (2005, 2011). Begay received his Master of Arts degree in Secondary Education from New Mexico State University in 2006.
