DUNCAN, Okla. – The Fort Lewis College men's golf team put together rounds of 283 (-5) and 285 (-3) to put themselves in T-6 with a 568 (-8) and in the hunt for a top finish at Cameron University's The Hrnciar following the first two trips around The Territory Golf Club on Monday evening.

The Skyhawks sit tied with Texas A&M University–Texarkana after the first rounds at the par-72, 6,800-yard track, and the pair trail Midwestern State University and St. Mary's University, who finished two strokes ahead in T-4 at 566 (-10). FLC is three strokes back from the top three and ten from the tournament leader.

Freshman Preston Ross continued to impress in his second appearance, with the Page, Ariz., native kicking off the tournament with a 73 (+1) before bouncing back with five birdies and a lone bogey for a 68 (-4) to reside in T-13 on a 141 (-3) total. Fellow freshman Mateo Berastegui and junior Talan Gover were hot on Ross' heels, as the pair matched one another with a pair of 142s (-2) on the afternoon. Gover edged Berastegui 11 birdies to seven, and the duo sit T-18.

Rounding out Fort Lewis were freshman Johnathon Smith, who turned in seven birdies and back-to-back rounds of even par (72), including a second round that featured one double bogey and a pair of birdies to finish square, to move up to T-32 at 144 (E), as well as sophomore Chase Rogers in T-58, shooting a 72 (E) with Fort Lewis' lone eagle on the 542-yard, par-five hole 15, one of just nine in the tournament, in round one before a second-round 76 (+4).

Pittsburg State University will take a four-stroke lead heading into the final round after the Gorillas fired a 282 (-6) in round one before lighting up the second 18 for a tournament-low 276 (-12) to stand at 558 (-18) overall.
