ST. GEORGE, Utah – February 10, 2018 – The Fort Lewis College softball team exploded for 30 runs on 34 hits in two wins on Saturday against Northwest Nazarene University and Western Washington University.
Angelique Elemen hit a two-run walk off home run in a 16-15 win over NNU in the morning game, followed by the Skyhawks third win of the season, 14-9, over WWU.
Against NNU, FLC trailed Northwest Nazarene, 13-10, heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, Elemen hit her first of two home runs in the game.
McKenna Hefley hit a two-run home run that scored
Kellsi Peterson, tying the game at 13-13 and sending the game to extra innings.
After NNU plated two runs in the top of the eighth inning, the Skyhawks started the bottom of the eighth inning with
Brittany Bigge on second base (international tiebreaker). Bigge advanced to third base on a passed ball and scored on
Pilar Gutierrez' single. Two outs later, Elemen hit a walk off two-run homerun that scored Gutierrez.
FLC (3-7) finished with 12 runs batted in and 16 runs scored on 15 hits.
Elemen went 4-for-5 at the plate with four runs batted in and three runs scored.
Denae Fisher, who threw out two bases runners attempting to steal second base, added two hits, two runs and a RBI, and
Tristen Gilbert went 3-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored.
Kassidy Trumbo pitched five innings surrendering four runs on eight hits and striking out four batters.
Against the Vikings, FLC tallied 14 runs on 19 hits and drew five walks. Seven of the Skyhawks 19 hits were extra base hits (four doubles, three homeruns).
The Skyhawks never trailed against WWU after jumping out to a 7-3 lead in the first two innings and finished with five runs in the seventh inning.
Four Skyhawks posted three hits each.
Allison Young, Gilbert and
Kylie Hefley each went 3-for-5 at the plate, and
Robyn Hall went 3-for-3. Young drove in three runs and scored twice. Gilbert, Hall and
Kylie Hefley each notched two runs batted in and scored twice. Elemen drove in four runs and scored twice on two hits.
Elemen, Gilbert and Hall each recorded a home run, accounting for six runs.
Mandy Lorenson worked six innings in the circle, surrendering eight runs on 11 hits and fanning two batters.
In five games at the Easton Classic, the Skyhawks batted .348 and tallied 42 runs, 54 hits, 12 doubles and nine homeruns.
FLC will travel to Tucson, Ariz. for five games Feb. 16-18 against Mary, Franklin Pierce, Cal Baptist, Western Oregon and Dixie State.
