GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – February 17, 2018 –
Kelli Warmouth scored eight goals – the second most in school history – Saturday afternoon as the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team opened their season at No. 22 Colorado Mesa University. The Skyhawks lost by one goal, 17-16.
FLC jumped to a 4-0 lead just four minutes into the game and kept the lead until CMU tied the game at 9-9 with 4:14 left in the first half.
Trailing 17-14 with 2:40 left in regulation,
Anna Dennison found the back of the net for her second goal of the game. Warmouth's eighth goal came with 1:41 left but the Skyhawks were held scoreless the remainder of the game.
Warmouth led FLC in shot attempts (12) and shots on goal (nine). She was successful on all five free position shots.
Freshman
Regan Olson recorded her first career goal and hat trick after she finished with three goals. All three of her shot attempts landed on goal.
Anna Dennison added two goals and four draw controls.
Delaney Benson,
Taylor Cabrera and
Abby Escandon posted goals for the Skyhawks. Cabrera, who recorded the lone assist for FLC, won a game high eight draw controls.
Ryanne Brust and
Aitana Rivera each picked up a team high three ground balls.
Daris Wienk started in goal for the Skyhawks, making three saves in the first half.
Ally Guerrero played the final 30 minutes, recording one goal.
FLC will travel to Colorado State-Pueblo on Feb. 24 for a non-conference game.
