DURANGO, Colo. – February 24, 2018 – The Westminster College Griffins used a 16-0 run to close out the final four minutes and 40 seconds of regulation and spoil the Fort Lewis College women's basketball senior night on Saturday in Whalen Gymnasium, 64-58.
The Skyhawks close the regular season with a 20-8 record and 14-8 mark in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Griffins end their season at 16-10 and 15-7 in the RMAC.
FLC led 58-48 with 4:40 left in the game but were held 0-for-9 from the floor while the Griffins made 9-of-11 free throws and 3-of-4 from the floor.
Vivian Gray led all scorers with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Gray made 9-of-17 field goals and 4-of-5 free throws.
Astrea Reed chipped in 13 points and three steals.
Kayla Herrera added nine points, five caroms, two assists and two steals.
After making 4-of-16 field goals in the first quarter, the Skyhawks rebounded to hit 7-of-14 in the second quarter. They were held to 4-of-19 field goals in the third stanza and finished the game shooting 31.8 percent from the floor (21-of-66), and 10.5 percent from three-point range (2-of-19).
Kaylee Carlsen paced WC with 17 points.
The Griffins out-rebounded FLC, 39-35, but the Skyhawks out-scored Westminster on second chance points, 12-4.
FLC will play on the road on Tuesday, Feb. 27 in the quarterfinal round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament.
