Softball to Play Five Games at Dixie State Easton Classic

  • The Fort Lewis College softball team will travel to St. George, Utah for five games between Feb. 8-10 against California Baptist, Dominican, Hawaii-Hilo, Northwest Nazarene and Western Washington.  The games will be played at Canyons Softball Complex.
     
  • FLC opened their season last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada.  In five games, FLC scored eight runs on 24 hits.  Julia Roberts recorded her first career home run, while Tristen Gilbert hit her 14th career home run. 
     
  • Roberts and Lauren Caldwell led FLC with four hits each, while Cassie Sloan crossed home plate twice.  Denae Fisher was successful in all five stolen base attempts.
     
  • Sophomore transfer (Pima CC) Mandy Lorenson led the pitching corps with 13.2 innings pitched and a 2.56 earned run average.  She added a team high 11 strikeouts.
     
  • Head coach Elle Fracker begins her third season at the helm of the Skyhawks program, with the addition of new assistant coach Stephanie Roan.
     
  • The Skyhawks are tied for 11th place in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
     
  • Junior Angelique Elemen was been named to preseason All-RMAC first team.
     
  • Elemen was named All-RMAC first team last season along with earning all-region and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Second Team accolades as a Utility/Non-Pitcher player.
     
  • Of the 22 active players on the Skyhawks roster, 11 are returning letterwinners (Allison Young, Robyn Hall, Denae Fisher (2017 redshirt season, 2016 letterwinner), Kelly Decker, Cassie Sloan, Kaitlyn Barlow, Kellsi Peterson, Tristen Gilbert, Catie McKinney, Angelique Elemen and Lauren Caldwell).  The Skyhawks welcome 11 new players to the field this season (Mandy Lorenson, Brittany Bigge (2017 redshirt season), Madelynne Blood-Smyth, Kendra Keahbone, Pilar Gutierrez, McKenna Hefley, Julia Roberts, Taylor Beaman, Kassidy Trumbo, Kylie Hefley, and Emily Selby).
     
  • Due to field renovations to the softball complex, the Skyhawks played their home games at Aztec High School last season but are expecting to play their season at the new softball complex on the FLC campus. 
     
  • The Skyhawks will play their home opener on Feb. 24 in a doubleheader against Colorado School of Mines beginning at 12 p.m.
