Softball Splits with Grizzlies; Fisher Ties Season Stolen Base Record

AZTEC, N.M. – March 24, 2018 – The Fort Lewis College softball team notched a 10-8 win Saturday afternoon against Adams State University at the Aztec Tiger Sports Complex in Aztec, N.M.  The Skyhawks fell in the series opener, 8-3.
 
In the bottom of the second inning in game two, Denae Fisher hit a single to left field to score Taylor Beaman for a 1-0 Skyhawks lead.  Angelique Elemen added four runs batted in with a grand slam in the same inning, scoring Fisher, Catie McKinney and Robyn Hall, giving FLC a 5-0 lead after two innings.
 
Leading 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Skyhawks plated five more runs to grab a 10-2 lead.  McKinney started the inning off with a homerun, followed by Lauren Caldwell's double that brought in Allison YoungKellsi Peterson added the Skyhawks third homerun of the day with a three-run homer.
 
The Grizzlies rallied back to score two runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth inning, but FLC held off ASU to earn the 10-8 win. 
 
Elemen, Caldwell, Beaman and Madelynne Blood-Smyth each posted two hits for the Skyhawks.  Elemen went 2-for-3 at the plate with four runs batted in and two runs scored.  Peterson finished with one hit, three runs batted in and one run scored.
 
Kelly Decker earned the win in the circle after pitching the first five and one-third innings.  Decker allowed six earned runs on 10 hits.
 
In the series opener, the Skyhawks grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning after Elemen hit a two-run homerun that scored Fisher. 
 
The Grizzlies regained the lead in the fifth inning after scoring two runs on three hits. 
 
Trailing 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Fisher hit a double to score Allison Young from second base for the Skyhawks final run.  ASU finished the game scoring two unanswered runs in the seventh inning.
 
Fisher recorded her 19th stolen base of the season, tying the season record with Chrystal Pesicak (1998).
 
Kendra Keahbone pitched the first five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and fanning two batters.
 
The Skyhawks and Grizzlies will return to the field Sunday morning for two games beginning at 11 a.m.
