Lorenson Leads Skyhawks to 7-2 Win; FLC Splits Series with Grizzlies

AZTEC, N.M. – March 25, 2018 – Mandy Lorenson pitched a complete game Sunday afternoon to lead the Fort Lewis College softball team to their second straight win against Adams State University, 7-2.  FLC lost in the series finale, 3-1.

Lorenson struck out nine batters and allowed only one earned run on five hits as the Skyhawks record their first series split of the conference season.

One day after hitting her first career homerun, Catie McKinney went yard again to give the Skyhawks a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

FLC (10-24, 4-16 RMAC) piled on four more runs in the sixth inning.  With two outs and Kellsi Peterson on second base, Robyn Hall reached base on an error allowing Peterson to score.  McKinney hit a single down the left filed line to score Hall, followed by Denae Fisher's double that brought home Allison Young and McKinney.

ASU (11-19, 8-8 RMAC) scored their lone two runs in the top of the seventh inning.

McKinney went 2-for-3 at the plate with four runs batted in and two runs scored.  Young added two hits and one run scored.

In the series finale, the Skyhawks were held to two hits by Young and Tristen Gilbert. Gilbert's single to left field in the fourth inning brought in Angelique Elemen for FLC's only run of the game.

Kelly Decker went the distance for the Skyhawks, allowing three runs on six hits and fanning two batters.

The Skyhawks will travel to No. 1 Colorado Mesa University for a four-game series March 30-31.
