Skyhawks Run-Ruled by Cougars

AZTEC, N.M. – March 4, 2018 – Colorado Christian University swept the Fort Lewis College softball team Sunday afternoon at the Aztec Tiger Sports Complex.  CCU run-ruled the Skyhawks in both games in five innings, 11-3 and 16-6.
 
FLC plated one run in the third, fourth and fifth innings each. 
 
Kellsi Peterson went 2-for-2 in the game, including a single in the third inning to score Madelynne Blood-Smith.  Angelique Elemen added a second run for FLC after Emily Selby was hit by a pitch to bring home Elemen and cut into CCU's lead, 6-2.
 
In the top of the fifth inning, the Cougars scored five runs on three hits, including a grand slam to increase their lead to 11-2.
 
Peterson scored the final run of the game after Denae Fisher reached base on a fielder's choice allowing Peterson to score.
 
Peterson and Tristen Gilbert accounted for all three hits by the Skyhawks. 
 
Kassidy Trumbo started in the circle for the Skyhawks, pitching 4.1 innings.  Trumbo surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and fanned one batter.
 
In the series finale, the Skyhawks notched seven hits with Allison Young and Elemen each recording two hits.  Elemen went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run batted in and one run scored.  McKenna Hefley drove in three runs and scored once after going 1-for-3 at the plate.
 
FLC tallied five of their six runs in the fifth inning, three of which came from Hefley's three-run homerun blast.
 
Kendra Keahbone pitched two innings for the Skyhawks, allowing six earned runs on eight hits. 
 
The Skyhawks (7-15, 1-7 RMAC) will play their next eight games on the road, beginning March 10-11 with a four-game series at MSU Denver.
