DURANGO, Colo. – April 21, 2018 – Playing on their home field for the first time in two seasons, the Fort Lewis College softball team opened the four-game series with a 3-2 win Saturday afternoon against Colorado State University-Pueblo, 3-2, at Aspen Field. FLC lost the second game in nine innings, 7-4.
All three runs were scored in the bottom of the sixth inning in the series opener. Senior
Lauren Caldwell hit a double to sore Deane Fisher.
Tristen Gilbert brought in two more runs when she grounded out to the pitcher before
Cassie Sloan and
Angelique Elemen scored on defensive errors by the Pack.
Elemen accounted for two of the Skyhawks five hits. Fisher recorded her 24
th stolen base of the season when she stole second in the sixth inning.
Mandy Lorenson earned her eighth win in the circle after pitching a complete game. She allowed only two runs on six hits and fanned eight batters.
In game two on Saturday, the ThunderWolves took a 1-0 lead in the third inning before FLC tied the game on
Robyn Hall's homerun, her second of the season.
NMHU regained the lead in the fourth inning before
Julia Roberts doubled to score
Taylor Beaman.
Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Skyhawks tied the game to send it to extra innings. Gilbert brought home Sloan, followed by Beaman's single to score
Denae Fisher.
CSU-Pueblo scored three runs on three hits in the ninth inning to earn the 7-4 win.
Elemen went 4-for-5 at the plate. Beaman and Hall combined for four hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.
FLC will face the ThunderWolves Sunday morning. The doubleheader is slated to start at 11 a.m.
