DURANGO, Colo. – Another down-to-the-wire finish helped highlight a strong 2-0 start to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season for the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team. Looking to continue the momentum, they will play just one game this week when they host Adams State University this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Dirks Field.
The Skyhawks have been on a roll as of late, having posted wins in three of their last four contests. This past weekend, FLC won their conference opener 3-0 against Black Hills State and then followed that up with an amazing late game overtime winner against Regis that concluded 1-0. Dylan Barker scored the OT winner after Charlie Kaiser setup the chance. Katie Smith, Barker and Emma Patron all recorded goals in the win over the Yellow Jackets.
FLC enters the weekend with a 3-2-1 overall record and 2-0 mark in the RMAC. Four teams are currently 2-0 to start RMAC play, as along with the Skyhawks, Colorado Mines, MSU Denver and UC-Colorado Springs are all off to the same start. Westminster is also undefeated, posting a 1-0 conference mark.
Renee Terrell and Barker led the Skyhawks with four points apiece, as each have two goals. Courtney Wamboldt and Patron added three points apiece, as they both have a goal and an assist. Six have scored a goal this season, with Terrell and Barker leading the way with two apiece. Wamboldt, Patron, Skylar Byrnes and Smith all have a goal this season. Britt Blomso has logged over 527 minutes in goal so far this year and has a 1.36 goals against average and a .765 save percentage. She has 26 saves this year and has faced 76 shots, with 34 on net. FLC has outshot opponents 88-79 and 39-35 on goal.
The Skyhawks are ranked high in several RMAC categories including fifth in assists per game (1.00), fifth in total assists (6) and fifth in win-loss percentage (.583). They rank sixth in the RMAC in points per game (3.67), scoring offense (1.33), shutout percentage (.333), total goals (8) and total points (22).
Individually, Blomso is seventh in the RMAC in total saves (26) and eighth in goals against average (1.365), save percentage (.765) and saves per game (4.33). Barker, Smith and Wamboldt are tied for eighth in the RMAC in game-winning goals (1), while Barker and Terrell are 10th in the RMAC in total goals (2). Blomso is also ninth in the RMAC in goalie minutes played (527:38).
Last year, FLC played at Adams State in Alamosa and the Grizzlies took the 2-1 victory on Oct. 22. Alicia Sanchez recorded the goal for FLC, as they held a 9-7 shot edge, while Adams State had a 5-4 advantage in terms of shots on goal. Back in 2016, the teams played in Durango and battled to a 1-1 tie.
This season, Adams State is 2-4 overall and 1-1 in RMAC play. They split this past weekend, as they bested Black Hills State 5-1, but fell in a close game to Regis, 2-3. Diana Cerillo has paced the Grizzlies with 10 points, going for four goals. Natalie Wheelock also has four goals and is second on the team in points with eight. Kendall Weld adds six points with two goals and two assists. In net, Corri Zaiger has played all 539-plus minutes and has a 2.67 goals against average and a .704 save percentage. She has 38 saves on 106 shots faced, with 54 being on goal.
