Foltz Promoted to Head Golf Coach

DURANGO, Colo. – Jim Foltz, currently in his fourth season with the Fort Lewis College golf program, was elevated to Head Coach of both the men's and women's programs Thursday as announced by FLC Director of Athletics Barney Hinkle.

"Golf has been my passion for over 30 years. The opportunity to mentor student-athletes in the sport I love fulfills a lifelong dream," Foltz said.

Foltz has spent a majority of this season leading the Skyhawks as the interim coach after spending the previous three years as the assistant coach of both programs.

"Jim has earned this opportunity.  His discipline, leadership and integrity will be a positive influence on our student-athletes as well as Fort Lewis College and the Durango community," Hinkle said. "With Coach Foltz and Devin Schreiner, our men's and women's golf programs are in very capable hands."

Foltz already has been busy on the recruiting trail signing four new women's players, including a pair from Durango and four new men's players to the team for next season. In addition, he hired an assistant coach in FLC alum Schreiner.

"Coaching is more than just the sport, it is developing young adults to be successful in society. So I view my role as one to motivate, educate, and graduate student-athletes," Foltz added. "The motivate, educate, and graduate (MEG) comes from my wife Meg who has been very supportive throughout this process."

Foltz spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons as an assistant coach for Kirk Rawles and the Durango High School boy's golf programs, guiding the Demons to back-to-back state tournament appearances.

In October 2009, Foltz retired as Command Chief Master Sergeant, closing out a 29-year career in the United States Air Force, reaching a rank only the top one percent of Airmen obtain.  Foltz oversaw more than 6,000 airmen and served for three one-star Generals.

A native of Vacaville, Calif., Foltz and his wife of 29 years, Meg, adopted four siblings in 2001 – Kevin, Sebastian, Shaianne and Chantel.  Kevin, 24, is a Marine and is currently stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif.  Sebastian (22) lives in Colorado Springs.  Shaianne (20) lives at home, having recently completed 10 months with AmeriCorps, and will head to City Year Tulsa in July. Chantel (19) is a freshman at Fort Lewis College, majoring in Exercise Physiology.
