Complete Results

PUEBLO, Colo. –
The Fort Lewis College outdoor track teams traveled down the road to Pueblo and competed in the CSU-Pueblo Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.

"With this winter, we've been on an actual track once. That's not an excuse but overall we aren't very sharp - but we can change that quickly," Head Coach Joshua Coon said. "The athletes have been so adaptable and kept good attitudes throughout the snow, I gotta hand it to them."

On the women's side, Madison Kranz competed in the 200-meter dash and clocked a time of 30.79 to place 25th.

Several Skyhawks competed in the 800-meter run with Sarah Chacon pushing for a top-10 finish coming in 11th with a time of 2:25.42. Angel Curley wasn't far behind with a time of 2:32.11 to come in 15th. Dorothy Elder and Rhylyn Jones gave FLC four finishers in the top-20 with Elder coming in 18th with a time of 2:39.78 and Jones in 20th with a time of 2:43.73. Makiah Salzano just missed a top-20 result crossing with a time of 2:48.20 to place 22nd. Chandra Christiansen and Claire Nagel came in 24th and 25th with times of 2:55.15 and 2:58.76.

In the 1,500-meter run, Jones added another strong finish as she crossed in 14th with a time of 5:12.10. Curley added a top-20 finish coming in 19th with a time of 5:15.21. Elder was just a few seconds from a top-20 result posting a time of 5:21.68 to come in 21st. Makiah Salzano rounded out the Skyhawks in the 1,500-meter coming in 27th with a time of 5:34.13.

In the 5,000-meter run, Jessica Ramirez came in second with a time of 20:28.65. Carly Wilborn was right behind in third with a time of 20:34.43. Karla DeLaCruz and Rose Chemeli placed in fifth and sixth with times of 20:54.22 and 21:10.38. Peyton Slack added a ninth-place finish crossing with a time of 21:29.13.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Krista Benze crossed with a time of 1:14.24 to place 10th and Kranz came in 11th with a time of 1:14.39.

"Krista and Madison both ran solid 400 hurdles," Coon said. "We haven't been over them often, but they have great motors for 300 meters. We will close that up"

Elder, Benze, Christiansen and Chacon then teamed up to compete in the 4x400-meter relay and the foursome clocked a time of 4:32.82 to come in seventh.

On the men's side, three Skyhawks competed in the 800-meter run with Tyler Gibson putting together a strong race as he nearly landed in the top-five crossing with a time of 2:00.45 to place sixth. Hunter Byram crossed with a time of 2:05.03 to come in 16th and then Andrew Vanaman crossed in 19th with a time of 2:14.90.

"Tyler is fit and learning to execute different strategies. He's going to be fun to watch this spring," Coon said.

In the 1,500-meter run, Byram led two Skyhawks in the event as he was just a few seconds away from a top-15 result crossing in 16th with a time of 4:20.13. Vanaman added a time of 4:35.22 to come in 23rd.

In the 5,000-meter run, Trevor Wilson and Wacey Begay finished in 15th and 16th with Wilson crossing with a time of 18:47.47 and Begay clocked a time of 19:03.62.
