PUEBLO, Colo. – Angelique Elemen broke her fifth program record this season alone when she tallied a single in the first game against Chadron State on Saturday. The Fort Lewis College softball team dropped the first game against the Eagles, 4-1, but then came back strong plating a late run to defeat CSU-Pueblo, 3-2, in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

For the weekend, FLC (16-33, 11-25 RMAC) went 2-0 against host CSU-Pueblo and 0-2 against Chadron State. Elemen's hit broke her tie with Missy Fundora at 224, as that moved her to 225 and alone as the program leader in hits.

The Skyhawks opened the scoring in the first game against Chadron State (13-32, 10-25 RMAC) when McKenna Hefley tripled to left to score Taylor Hollestelle who opened the inning with a single.

The Eagles answered with an unearned run in the second to even the score at one. FLC threatened in the home half of the inning when Julia Roberts doubled and Hannah Gondini walked, but a foul out ended the threat.

In the third, Elemen set the hits record when she singled to left-center. FLC again threatened when Dana Dwyer singled before a groundout ended the inning.
The game would remain tied into the seventh when Chadron State was able to plate three runs on three hits, along with two errors for the 4-1 lead. FLC got a single from Gondini in their last at-bat, but weren't able to get anymore baserunners.

FLC outhit Chadron State 8-6 and FLC committed the only three errors in the game. Gondini led FLC with two hits and McKenna Hefley had the RBI. In the circle, Kassidy Trumbo started and went the first 6.1 innings and allowed four runs (none earned) to end up with the hard-luck loss (3-10), along with two strikeouts and no walks. Emily Morris went the final two-thirds and allowed just a hit.

Six players accounted for the hits for the Eagles, while Lauren Renick and Gabby Russell each drove in a run. In the circle, Peyton Propp went all seven innings for the complete game win (3-7) allowing just one earned run.

In the second game against CSU-Pueblo (11-26, 10-23 RMAC), FLC erased an early 2-0 deficit and then won it late in the seventh. The ThunderWolves opened the scoring with two runs with two outs in the second to jump out to the 2-0 lead.

The Skyhawks worked their way back with a run in both the third and fourth innings. In the third, Hollestelle and Allison Young hit back-to-back singles before a sacrifice fly by Elemen drove in Hollestelle.

In the fourth, Mackenzie Parks opened the frame with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After Kaitlyn Barlow walked, Roberts ripped a single to center to load the bases. Gonidni brought in the tying run when she grounded out to shortstop.

In the seventh with two quick outs on the board, Young kept the inning alive when she singled to left. Elemen added a single to right-center to put runners at the corners. McKenna Hefley hit a shot to the shortstop that was misplayed and allowed the go-ahead run to score.

Trumbo then slammed the door in the home half when she got the first two outs and then worked around an error to collect the 3-2 win.

FLC outhit CSU-Pueblo 10-6 and the teams combined for three errors, two by CSU-Pueblo. Young led the way with three hits and Elemen added two.
