DURANGO, Colo. — The Fort Lewis College Department of Athletics is excited to announce the addition of Alec Munro as the Skyhawks new Strength and Conditioning Coordinator.

Munro was hired last month by Centura Health and Mercy Regional Medical Center, the official sports medicine provider for Fort Lewis College Athletics. He comes to Durango after working as a Graduate Assistant in 2020-21 at Pittsburg State University; a NCAA Division II institution in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).

"Fort Lewis College has the potential for tremendous growth throughout its athletics program, which helped draw me in," Munro said. "Having the support of both the college and Mercy Sports Medicine gives us the ability to improve and develop healthy athletes at their top performance, and I am really excited to take part in it."

Munro served as the primary Strength and Conditioning coach for the men's and women's basketball teams, track and field programs, while also assisting with football at Pittsburg State.

A native of Wilber, Nebraska, Munro played college basketball at Hastings College from 2015-19 while earning his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Strength and Conditioning.

After spending one year in the MAT program at Hastings College, Munro transferred to PSU to pursue his master's degree in Health and Human Performance. He will receive his diploma in May of 2022.

In addition to his experience at Pittsburg State and Hastings College, Munro has worked with a variety of sports through four internship programs: EXOS, Hastings College, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Florida Atlantic University.

"We are excited to bring someone of Alec's experience and passion to our Mercy Sports Medicine team," said Supervisor of Athletic Training, Kolin Tomlinson. "We look forward to the improvements in injury prevention and performance enhancement the student athletes at Fort Lewis will gain by working with Alec and our entire sports medicine staff."
