Tornroos takes 7th, Skyhawks finish 8th at Farmers Insurance Sam Proal Invitational

PUEBLO, Colo. – Senior Emma Tornroos shot her way to a strong seventh-place individual finish as the Fort Lewis College women's golf team found itself in 8th place at the Sam Proal Farmers Insurance Invitational. The tournament took place at the Pueblo Country Club hosted by Colorado State University-Pueblo.
 
Tornroos was the highest-placing Skyhawk while Zoey Rodriguez from CSU Pueblo took the first-place individual title with a 146 (+2) on the scorecard.
 
CSU Pueblo captured the first-place team title on its hometown course, totaling 605 (299, 306) on the scorecard eighteen strokes above par. Fort Lewis found itself in eighth as a team, scoring 655 (322, 333) on the card and 79 strokes above par behind South Dakota Mines in seventh with a 653 (320, 333).
 
As a team, the Skyhawks averaged 3.72 on par threes, 4.68 on par fours, and 5.40 on par fives. Fort Lewis totaled 77 pars and just eight birdies across both rounds.
 
Round One (322, +34)
Fort Lewis struggled in the opening round. As a team, FLC landed 34 bogeys, nine double bogeys, and one triple bogey, but with just six birdies the scorecards could not be saved. Emma Tornroos led the Skyhawks with a solid start in round one. The senior posted a 75 (+3) on her scorecard finishing in a five-way tie for fifth.
 
Round Two (333, +45)
Tornroos maintained her stride in the second round, dropping a pair of birdies on her way to an 80 (+8) on the scorecard and securing her 7th-place finish. Fort Lewis continued to struggle as a unit, scoring just two birdies in the final round. The Skyhawks landed 41 bogeys, nine double bogeys, and a single quadruple bogey to wrap up the tournament.
 
Next Up
Fort Lewis will compete in its final tournament of the fall next Monday and Tuesday. The Skyhawks will host the Nick Turner Invitational on the Arroyo Del Oso golf course down in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Oct. 17-18.
