Yellow Jackets shut out Skyhawks

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Unable to keep its defense off the field, the Fort Lewis College football team was shut out on the road by Black Hills State University in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.
 
Fort Lewis remains winless at 0-8 overall and 0-7 in the RMAC. Black Hills State breaks a three-game losing streak to advance to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in conference games.


"I am disappointed in the outcome, but never our guys," Fort Lewis College Head Coach Johnny Cox said. "Regardless of the score our guys have always shown excellent character and play every game until the end. We have a ton of dedicated, hardworking, and positive kids that want this program to be successful. My hope is we can move on from this game and continue to display that character and fight through the remainder of the season."

 
The Skyhawks were unable to stop the Yellow Jackets offense, allowing BHSU to score on every drive until the final possession of the game. Black Hills put up a dominating 633-yards of total offense en route to the highest-scoring game in program history at 75.
 
Fort Lewis managed just 134-yards of total offense, picking up 78-yards rushing and 56-yards through the air.
 
The Skyhawks offense reached the Black Hills half of the field just three times across 13 total drives and was unable to reach the red zone.
 
Yellow Jackets quarterback Chane Eben was 9 for 15 (60%) for 174-yards and four touchdowns. The BHSU quarterback took just one sack on the day. Eben also added 46 net yards rushing. Backup quarterback Aidan Williams provided an additional 109 yards and one touchdown, completing 6 of his 7 passing attempts (85.71%).
 
Black Hills quarterbacks connected with nine different receivers on the afternoon. Haasan Williams led the receiving core with two touchdowns, and Jamin Wurtz, TJ Chukwurah, and John Noordsy each added a single score as well.
 
Nolan Susel led Black Hills in touchdowns on the ground with two, while Cameron Goods was the most effective rusher with 88 net yards on the afternoon.
 
Fort Lewis used three different quarterbacks in today's game with Brayden Miller as the starter. Miller was 3 for 7 (42.85%) for just 29 yards, while Nolan Bynum finished 7 for 13 (53.84%) for 24 yards in his second appearance of the season.
 
Brayden Lucero led the Skyhawks on the ground, securing 40 net yards on four attempts this afternoon. In his second-straight week, Christopher Thomas Jr. was Fort Lewis' leading receiver, gaining 27 yards on two catches.
 
NOTABLES
-Oscar Oliva's sack for a loss of six yards today was his first of the season.
-With a pass breakup today, Parker Cunningham is now the only Skyhawk with a forced fumble, an interception, and a pass breakup.
-With six total tackles today, Carter Cameron is now the only Skyhawk with over fifty tackles on the season with 61.0.
 
NEXT UP
The Skyhawks are back at home next week for the final home game to celebrate its graduating seniors. Celebrating Chamber Day, Fort Lewis will welcome the Western Colorado Mountaineers for an RMAC contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
