10/7/2022 1:30:00 PM

DURANGO, Colo. – Home field advantage is always in play, and there is no place better than Ray Dennison Memorial Field packed with Skyhawks fans. The Fort Lewis football team will look to utilize an electric home crowd against the Chadron State College Eagles as both teams search for the first win of the season in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest this Saturday.

Game Information
Saturday, October 8th
12:00 p.m.
Vs. Chadron State Eagles
Ray Dennison Memorial Field

"Chadron State comes into the contest winless like us, so I am sure both teams will be hungry to get that first win," Fort Lewis Head Coach Johnny Cox said. "It will be a great challenge for us, they have an explosive offense and a stout defense. They have been in a lot of games and look very impressive on film. We are up to the challenge, and we are excited about our great week of practice and really attacking these guys this Saturday."

Scouting the Eagles
Chadron enters Saturday's contest 0-5 overall and 0-3 in its RMAC schedule. The Eagles have faced its share of strong opponents with a heavy front-loaded schedule this season. No. 7 Angelo State welcomed CSC for its season opener in San Angelo, Texas, and handed the Eagles a 35-0 loss. Chadron then suffered losses to NCAA Division I Western Athletic Conference member Dixie State 56-10, Black Hills State 32-23, and Western Colorado 56-28. Most recently the Eagles took a 45-9 loss at home to No. 22 Colorado School of Mines.

The Eagles quarterback room has gone through its fair share of troubles thus far. Heath Beemiller was named the starter to kick off the season, but a knee injury against Black Hills now has him calling signals from the sideline.

Sophomore Mason Hamilton then stepped in and showed promise as he completed 40 of his 71 passing attempts for three touchdowns and one interception. A left-shoulder injury against Western Colorado has since ended his season, forcing redshirt freshman Preston Pearson to command the offense.

Pearson is just 19 for 30 (63.3%) with 198 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in his four appearances. Pearson has added three net yards on the ground on 17 attempts as well.

Ahlonte Hamilton leads the wide receiver room for Chadron State. The six-foot-two junior has amassed 202 yards on 11 touches, averaging 18.36 yards per catch and 40.40 yards per game.

Senior Jalen Starks has been the Eagles leading rusher all season. The six-foot-one two-hundred and forty-five pound running back has taken 55 rushing attempts for 268 net yards and four touchdowns. Starks averages 4.9 yards per carry and 53.60 yards per game.

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis is back at home after suffering a tough 75-3 loss to Colorado State University Pueblo last week: the final score is the highest in program history for The Pack. Braden Wingle was 21 for 36 (58.3%) in the air for 140 yards and three interceptions. The Skyhawks quarterback was also sacked three times.

The running game was ineffective against a tough Thunderwolves front. The Pack held Fort Lewis to just 17 net rushing yards after hitting Skyhawks running backs for a loss of 50 yards.

Hunter Villavicencio kept FLC from being shutout, drilling a 45-yard field goal for the lone score of the afternoon.

The Pack put up a commanding 537 yards of total offense that saw 222 yards through the air and 315 on the ground. CSU Pueblo scored six rushing touchdowns and added four receiving touchdowns as well.

Next Up
Following this week's home contest, Fort Lewis will head back on the road for an RMAC matchup at Colorado Mesa on Saturday, Oct. 15. A 6:00 p.m. kickoff will feature the Skyhawks and Mavericks underneath the lights at Stocker Stadium.
