Skyhawks to face Griffins in road clash

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team will head to Salt Lake City for a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game against Westminster College on Saturday. The road trip will be a unique, stand-alone game to close out play before the holiday break.

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis played an RMAC doubleheader on the road for the first time this season, taking on NMHU and CSU Pueblo on Friday and Saturday. The Skyhawks dropped a 78-56 final to the Cowgirls before falling 61-46 to the ThunderWolves in the finale. In Friday's contest, Skyhawks struggled to find a groove offensively, shooting just 32.8 percent (19-of-58) from the field compared to a mark of 48.3 percent (29-of-60) for the Cowgirls. NMHU was even more impressive from three, shooting 50 percent (12-of-24) versus 28.6 percent (6-of-21) for Fort Lewis. The Cowgirls outrebounded the Skyhawks 39-29 for the game.

The following night, Fort Lewis was tied with CSU Pueblo at the half but ultimately fell in the final 20 minutes of play. The Skyhawks shot 32.7 percent (17-of-52) from the field and just 15.4 percent (4-of-26) from three for the contest. The Pack was more efficient from beyond the arc, connecting on 38.5 percent (10-of-26) of their attempts. Fort Lewis won the rebound battle with 38 compared to 35 for CSU Pueblo. Freshman Lanae Billy tied a career-high with 21 points to go along with a season-high nine rebounds—both marks leading the team. Graduate student Kaitlyn Bell was five-of-five from the field for 10 points and came away with eight boards. Sophomore Avery Evans had eight points in the effort.

Scouting Westminster College
The Griffins sit 5-5 overall and 3-1 in league play after sweeping the weekend. The team picked up wins over Regis University (66-65) and UCCS (55-46) and has only dropped a game to Colorado School of Mines since kicking off RMAC action.

Westminster is averaging 66.3 points per game compared to 68.0 points per game for its opponents. They average 36.5 rebounds per game and 12.3 turnovers per game thus far. The Griffins are paced by Ashley Greenwood who averages 18.4 points per game to rank second in the conference. Greenwood also leads the team with 6.5 rebounds per game, 34 total assists, and 16 total steals. Lyndzi Rich followed with 11.9 points per game to go along with 6.1 rebounds per game.

Fort Lewis is 7-6 all-time against Westminster, dating back to a series-opening win in 2015. The Skyhawks dropped the lone meeting between the pair last season by a 68-40 final at home. The Griffins had four players with double-digit points in the win, including Greenwood and Rich at 12 apiece.

Looking Ahead
The Skyhawks will have a break for the holidays before kicking it back into gear for a pair of home games to close out 2022. First, the team will take on South Dakota Mines on Friday, December 30 at 3:00 p.m. The year will end with a 3:30 p.m. tip-off against Black Hills State on Saturday, December 31.
