DURANGO, Colo. – Coming off a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win inside of Whalen Gymnasium on Saturday, the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team will hit the road for a pair of league games this week. First, the team takes on New Mexico Highlands before turning around to face CSU Pueblo on Saturday.

Last Time Out
Guided by a career-high 22 points from junior Kelsey Sorenson, the Skyhawks ran away with a 64-57 win over Western Colorado University on Saturday—the team's first RMAC win of the season. Fort Lewis improved to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the league.

The Skyhawks relied on a defensive fourth quarter which saw the Mountaineers connect on just seven points to secure the win. Western was 1-of-10 through the final 10 minutes of play compared to a 4-of-12 mark for Fort Lewis.
Fort Lewis shot 42.6 percent (20-of-47) from the field for the game versus a 45.5 percent (20-of-44) mark for the opposition. A deciding factor in the win came from the free-throw line where the home team connected on 16 for the contest. Another turning point came via offensive rebounds where the Skyhawks came away with 14—second most on the season.

Sorenson was the main difference-maker on the defensive side of the ball, coming away with six offensive boards to give her 10 total for the game. Her ability to clean the glass led to 14 second-chance points for the Skyhawks. Freshman Lanae Billy followed with her third 20-points scoring effort of the season. Graduate student Kaitlyn Bell and sophomore Avery Evans each contributed three assists.

Scouting New Mexico Highlands
The Cowgirls have surpassed their win total from the 2021-22 season and currently sit 7-1 on the year. The team was riding a win streak getting into last week's play but dropped a Saturday game to Chadron State by an 89-59 final. The team is averaging 64.8 points per game while holding the opposition to a 59 points per game average.

Three players average double-digit points, led by a 13.8 points per game average from Juliana Aragon. Krystina Hagood and Delani Harris follow at 11.4 and 10.2 points per game, respectively. Leading the way for a team that averages 36.2 rebounds per game is Neysa Munguia at 7.2 per outing. On the offensive front, the Cowgirls hold a .390 field goal percentage to rank ninth in the league.

Fort Lewis is 25-2 all-time against NMHU, dating back to a win that kicked off the series in 2008. In the lone meeting last season, the Skyhawks fell in a 54-51 final at home. Sorenson had 15 points and a career-high 17 rebounds in the win, followed by a 10-point outing from senior Alyssa Adams.

Scouting CSU Pueblo

JaNaiya Davis and Fairley each average 6.5 rebounds per game to lead the team.
