The Fort Lewis College Women's Lacrosse Team Fell in a 19-2 Neutral Site Game on Tuesday Afternoon

Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team fell in a 19-2 decision to non-conference foe Rockhurst University on Tuesday afternoon.

The Skyhawks were outshot 48-14 for the game. Fort Lewis did outshoot the opposition 7-5 in the third quarter, but Rockhurst still managed a 3-1 goals advantage. Diamond Velasco and Caprietta Abbadessa each chipped in a goal. Maren Clark led the team with four groundballs while Rebecca Kiyokawa picked up two ground balls and a caused turnover to add the her stat line. Averi Basso had 17 saves on the day.

Rockhurst got out to a roaring start, going up 4-0 before Diamond Velasco got the Skyhawks on the board with her first career goal. The score held at 4-1 at the conclusion of the opening quarter. The second quarter got off to a similar start with Rockhurst putting up seven unanswered goals to hold an 11-1 lead at the break. Rockhurst held a 34-6 advantage in shots through the first half.  

The Skyhawks came out of the break with renewed energy, earning a free position goal from Caprietta Abbadessa just 90 seconds into play to make it 12-2. The Rockhurst defense locked down from there, allowing miminal offensive opportunity for the Skyhawks through the remained of the game for a 19-2 final.

Fort Lewis (1-3, 1-1 RMAC) will look ahead to its spring break trip to Florida. The team will play Lynn University on Wednesday, March 23 in Boca Raton, followed by a Friday, March 25th game against Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida.
