Women's soccer returns to Dirks to continue league play

DURANGO, Colo. – After starting the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season on the road, the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team is home for a Friday/Friday slate against New Mexico Highlands and Colorado Christian.

Looking Back
The Skyhawks suffered a pair of shutouts in the conference opening weekend, falling to CSU Pueblo (1-0) and (RV) UCCS (3-0). CSU Pueblo held a 10-7 edge in shots for the match, including a slight 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore McKenna Ford led the team with two shots, one on goal. The team's additional shots on target came from freshman Clara Tallent and sophomores Julia Johnson and Aubrey Swindle. Junior Katie Dunbabin and sophomore Riley Bravin each picked up two saves in goal.

In the road finale, UCCS finished the game with a 17-7 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. The Mountain Lions benefitted from seven corners compared to two for the Skyhawks. Junior McKenna Thompson led the team with three shots, two of which were on frame. Freshman Tristan Hanrath followed with a pair of shots in 33 minutes of play. Katlyn Rosenbaum allowed one goal while making four saves in the second half.

Scouting New Mexico Highlands
NMHU is 0-6 this season, playing each game at home thus far. The team has notched just one goal on the year, coming in the season-opening loss to Chaminade University (5-1). The Cowgirls were 0-2 to begin the conference portion of their schedule and dropped matches to Regis University (4-0) and Colorado School of Mines (2-0).

NMHU averages six shots per game and just under four shots on goal per outing. The lone goal scorer is Melissa Olivares, a junior midfielder who has seen the field in all six games. Isabella Ortiz has started all six contests at goal and holds a 3.67 goals against average while racking up 28 saves. Fort Lewis is 16-2-3 all-time versus the Cowgirls and claimed a 4-1 win last season.

Scouting Colorado Christian University
CCU sits at 1-5 on the year and 0-2 in league play. The Cougars earned a 1-0 win over Eastern New Mexico University in their second game of the season. Last week, the team was held scoreless in games against Black Hills State (1-0) and MSU Denver (2-0).

The Cougars are averaging 9.7 shots per game and 4.7 shots on goal per game to start the season. Capri Dewing and Parker Sweet account for the group's goals this season, while Kinley Sanders and Dewing each have an assist to their credit. Ashleigh Maguire has started six games at goal and boasts a 1.50 goals against average with 18 saves. Fort Lewis is 13-4-1 all-time against Colorado Christian, but the Cougars got the better of the Skyhawks in the most recent meeting, earning a 3-0 win on their home field.

Around the RMAC
The league is represented in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 by Colorado School of Mines at No. 17. The Orediggers move up from No. 20 with an overall record of 5-1-1. UCCS continues to receive votes in the latest poll.
Mesa's Lila Dere continues to lead the league in scoring with 10 goals in seven games played. Alexa Maple of Westminster is the leading assister with six to her credit. MSU Denver's Kylie Bach leads all goalkeepers with a .236 goals against average.

Fort Lewis (1-6-1) remains home for a matchup with Adams State University (1-5-1) on Sunday, October 2 at 11:00 a.m. The Skyhawks are 14-2-3 all-time against the Grizzlies and played to a 0-0 draw in last year's meeting.
