Women's soccer settles for 0-0 draw against Roadrunners in home finale

DURANGO, Colo. – Senior goalkeepers Riley Bravin and Katlyn Rosenbaum combined for five saves in the team's eighth shutout of the year, contributing to a 0-0 draw against MSU Denver in Fort Lewis College women's soccer's home finale.

Fort Lewis moved to 8-3-6 overall and 4-3-4 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play while MSU Denver now sits at 6-5-6 on the year and 5-3-3 in league play.

Despite outshooting MSU Denver in the second half, the Roadrunners held a 10-8 advantage for the match. The teams each recorded five shots on goal. For the Skyhawks, it was junior Gabi Meraz-Fishbein leading the way with two shots, one of which made its way on frame. The goalkeeper duo of Bravin and Rosenbaum held MSU Denver scoreless and lowered the Fort Lewis goals-against average to .71.

"I thought that MSU Denver did a good job to control much of the tempo and where the game was played," said head coach Damian Clarke. "We seemed a bit slow coming into the game. Our freshmen Abila Tapia and Haley Stafford started to find some dangerous service, but we couldn't get ourselves on the end of it today."

In what would ultimately be a defensive dandy, Fort Lewis got the first offensive look in the 19th minute. Finding space on a free kick, junior Danielle Gonzales sent a shot on target. The opposing keeper momentarily misplayed the ball, but she collected herself to earn the match's first save. The Roadrunners fired off shots in the 24th and 26th minutes before earning a shot on goal in the 35th minute. Bravin, the Skyhawks' starting keeper, earned her first save of the match top-right. Bravin would be tested once more, this time in the 36th minute, as the half ended scoreless.

In the second half, Tapia set the tone early with a shot on target in the 48th minute. Freshman Amber Otts followed her lead in the 57th minute, sending a shot on goal from deep. The bounce fell favorably for the Roadrunners' keeper who earned a save. Fort Lewis keyed in on several opportunities off the cross, sending offensive players forward, but excellent defensive reads ultimately intercepted the looks. Senior Aubrey Swindle had one final look for Fort Lewis with under one minute to play, but her low-corner attempt was met by the keeper to hold it scoreless as time expired.

"We have to go play a tough Western Colorado team this week and get a result to secure our spot in the RMAC Tournament," recognized Clarke.
