No. 15 Skyhawks outlast Greyhounds on Garbrah’s magnificent buzzer-beater

DURANGO, Colo. – After leading by as many as 14 points in the second half, the Skyhawks suddenly found themselves trailing by one with ten seconds remaining in the game. Following a timeout, Junior Garbrah took the ball from the right wing straight to the basket and with his right hand, beat the buzzer with no time remaining to lift the 15th-ranked Fort Lewis men's basketball team (3-1) to a 75-74 win over Eastern New Mexico University (2-2) Saturday night up on the rim.

"Playing their second game on short rest in elevation… I thought Eastern New Mexico played an outstanding basketball game: I really credit coach Owen and their program on how they fought," head coach Bob Pietrack shared. "Very thankful we were able to win the game, but we need to clean a lot of things up, a lot of mistakes by us the last ten minutes, but we have a new team and we're learning… and there's no person more deserving of a moment like that than our captain (Garbrah)."

Three Skyhawks capped off the night in double figures led by Obi Agbim with 21 points and six rebounds while also picking up a block, assist, and steal. Jhei-R Jones added another 11 points, six rebounds, and two steals while Carter provided 11 more points and five rebounds while blocking a career-high four shots.

Jahcoree Ealy had a phenomenal night for the Greyhounds recording 28 points as he knocked down 11-of-19 field goal attempts and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line while adding a pair of assists and steals. Greg Johnson trailed closely behind with 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, and another pair of steals.

Fort Lewis clamped ENMU to just 24 points in the first half, but Eastern New Mexico found its footing to shoot 55 percent and rack up 50 points in the second half. In the end, FLC outrebounded the Greyhounds 41-34 and dominated in points off the bench 31 to 14. Neither team shot above 15 percent from the three-point line.

FLC maintained its double-digit lead well into the second half before ENMU ran off on a 12-to-1 run to capture its second lead of the game. Two more lead changes would occur before Garbrah sealed the game on the final shot.
