Women's basketball welcomes Lincoln to Whalen Gym for two games

DURANGO, Colo. – Following a home win against Northern New Mexico, the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team is set to host a doubleheader against Lincoln University (Calif.) on Monday and Tuesday.

Last Time Out
The Skyhawks split a home weekend against Northern New Mexico University, dropping Thursday's game (67-62) before picking up the home win on Friday by a 58-39 final. In the win, junior Sydney Bevington recorded 18 rebounds and 12 points for her first career double-double. Her 18 rebounds are the most by a Fort Lewis player since at least 2012. Sophomore Kate Gallery led all players with a career-high 14 points to go along with six rebounds. Junior Samantha Wattawa continued her impressive campaign with a career-best eight rebounds, bringing her season average to 6.8. Junior Sadie Misner added six steals and three assists in the win.

According to their athletics website, the Oaks are 1-2 this season, most recently falling by a 127-80 final to Texas A&M International on Saturday. Through three games, Lindsey Claude is leading the team by averaging 22.3 points per game. Two additional players are averaging over 13 points per game. As a team, Lincoln puts up 73 points per game compared to 92 for their opponents. The team spends a lot of time at the free throw line and owns an 80 percent clip in 100 chances.

Colorado Mesa leads the league with a 6-1 record, followed by Mines and Regis who are each 4-1. In the statistical standings, Fort Lewis ranks ninth in points per game (59.3), eighth in 3-point FGs made (4.8), seventh in free throw percentage (74.4), fifth in rebounds (38.8), first in steals per game (14.5), and first in offensive rebounds per game (14.0).

Fort Lewis will open conference play on Saturday, December 2 with a road contest at Western Colorado University. The teams tip off at 3:00 p.m. from Paul Wright Gym. The Mountaineers are 1-3 this season with a win over Eastern New Mexico University.

In the series history, Fort Lewis leads 20-7 with an 11-3 mark in Gunnison. The Skyhawks won both matchups last season, first with a 64-57 victory at home before earning the sweep in 69-53 fashion.
