Garbrah, Kinsler lead No. 20 Fort Lewis to exhilarating and fourth-consecutive win over Route 160 rival Adams State

DURANGO, Colo. – Whalen Gymnasium was rocking on Tuesday night as Junior Garbrah scored 20, Samier Kinsler 18, Malik Whitaker 15, Obi Agbim 13, and Brayden Carter another 10 to lift the 20th-ranked Fort Lewis men's basketball team to its sixth-straight win in a 100-80 victory over Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and U.S. Route 160 rival Adams State University.

The Skyhawks advance to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in league play while the Grizzlies fall to 2-6 on the year and 0-2 in RMAC games.

"Fun rivalry game, they were a hard fish to reel in and get in the boat tonight," head coach Bob Pietrack commented. "I'm really happy with our guys and the depth of our team. For us to continue to win in bench points, points in the paint, turning them over 19 times, and out-rebounding them by ten, those are what we preach, and it was the difference in the game. I'm proud of our team, but we know Highlands has been waiting for us and we expect another great game Friday night."

Garbrah, who finished two points shy of his career high, finished his night 8-for-10 from the floor and 2-for-2 at the three-point line while picking up three assists and one steal. Kinsler posted a season-high with 18 points tonight, has scored in double figures his last three games, and set a new career-high with four steals.

"It was electric, we've been waiting to have the students back," Garbrah added. "We just wanted to show out and represent the Skyhawks in the right way."

Three Grizzlies racked up double-digit points headlined by Austin Fadal who registered 19 while adding five rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Destan Williams provided another 17 on a team-leading 34 minutes while Jude Tapia secured 11 more on a trio of three-point jumpers.

Fort Lewis out-rebounded its opponent (36-to-26) for its fourth consecutive game, forced at least 19 turnovers while also leading in points-in-the-paint (50-to-34) for in its third consecutive game, and recorded a team season-high 14 steals on the night.

Both sides shot above 40 percent in the opening half with three treys each, but Fort Lewis found themselves in front thanks to a 10-rebound margin, twice as many trips to the free-throw line (9-to-4), and forcing 10 of Adams State's 19 total turnovers.

Out of the intermission, a layup from Kaleb Mitchell had the Grizzlies back within two, 53-55 before a three-point jumper from Kinsler kicked off the final breakaway of the night. Fort Lewis went off to the races on a 22-13 run while shooting 67 percent in the second half to ice the game.
