Skyhawks position unchanged in latest NABC Top 25 Poll

DURANGO, Colo. – For the third consecutive week the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team has checked in at number 20 on the National Association of Basketball Coaches Top 25 Poll, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
 
With this week's poll, Fort Lewis sets a new program record at 18 consecutive appearances on either national poll.
 
The Skyhawks, boasting a 5-1 overall record and 1-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record, are coming off of a split week featuring a non-conference match-up at home and FLC's first conference road test of the season.
 
Last Monday, Fort Lewis handed Northern New Mexico College a 75-62 loss in Whalen Gymnasium on the back of a monster 51-point opening half that also saw the Eagles held to 26 points. Four Skyhawks went for double figures in the contest led by Obi Agbim's 15-point, three-steal, two rebounds, one assist, and one block outing.
 
On Saturday, the Skyhawks made a statement on the opening weekend of conference play. Fort Lewis marched into Gunnison, Colo., and the highest collegiate gymnasium in the country, and handed Western Colorado University (3-4, 1-1 RMAC) a commanding 85-55 loss. Led primarily by 51 percent shooting as a unit and 46 points in the paint, FLC took a 13-11 lead at the 13:14 mark and never looked back. Four Skyhawks scored in double figures for the second-straight game as Brayden Carter led the way with a season-high 16 points alongside six rebounds an assist, and a block.
 
As a team, Fort Lewis owns the fifth-highest offense (78.8), second-rated defense (66.3), and the second-best score margin (+12.5) in the RMAC. The Skyhawks are shooting at clips of .441/.328/.806 and also rank third in total rebounds (38.3), second in offensive rebounds (12.7), and third in rebounding margin (+5.2) across the league.
 
Colorado Mesa University (5-1, 2-0 RMAC) is the highest-ranked RMAC school on the national poll at 15 while Metropolitan State University of Denver (7-1, 1-1 RMAC) checks in at 18 while Colorado School of Mines (5-3, 1-1 RMAC) continues to receive votes.
