DURANGO, Colo. – The final week of the regular season is upon the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team who heads to the metro area for a Friday/Sunday doubleheader against No. 7 Regis University and UCCS.

Last Time Out
The Skyhawks played in their home finale last Saturday, celebrating the senior class and Nike N7 while earning an 18-11 win over CSU Pueblo. Taking a look at the team statistics in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup, Fort Lewis outshot CSU Pueblo by a 35-25 margin. The teams were equal with 27 turnovers apiece while the Skyhawks held the edge in draw controls (20-13), ground balls (25-16), and caused turnovers (14-9).

Dostie's six goals led all players and gives her 41 on the year—most by a Skyhawks since 2012 when Ally Kvidera recorded 47. Vanzant followed with four to establish a career-high and give her 11 this season. From there, the trio of freshman Zoi Delgado and juniors Nina Polk and Caprietta Abbadessa chipped in two goals apiece. Six Skyhawks earned assists in the effort.

Senior goalkeeper Averi Basso went the distance with eight saves and a team-best six ground balls to earn her third win of the season. Senior JoJo Lutz earned a season-high three caused turnovers to go along with three ground balls while freshman Samantha Rodgers added her third, three caused turnover game of the season. Senior Rebecca Kiyokawa came away with a career-high nine draw controls in addition to a pair of ground balls

Scouting No. 7 Regis University
The Rangers are coming off a disappointing week to their standard, splitting a pair of games to Colorado Mesa (L, 14-13, OT) and CSU Pueblo (W, 22-2). The loss to the Mavericks marked the first loss for the Rangers this season and the team's first conference loss since April 15, 2018. The win for Mesa was it's first against Regis in the 29-game series.

Despite the blemish, Regis is still racking up impressive statistics as a team and individually. They have six athletes with 25 goals or more, led by Bailey Truex's 40 goals this season. Lucy Johnson follows and it's the leader in points with 39 goals and 17 assists (56 points). Gabby Rothermund has dished out 25 assists to go along with 15 goals. Madeline Shallmoster and Lily Ferguson lead the way with 23 and 21 caused turnovers apiece. A pair of goalkeepers have split time this season, but Brigit Goetsch leads the way having played and started in all 14 games. She owns a goals-against average of 8.88 and sits 13-1 overall.

Fort Lewis welcomed Regis to Durango on April 2 and fell by a final score of 18-2. Junior Ellie Martinez and sophomore Diamond Velasco scored goals in the effort and Basso collected 10 saves in 45 minutes of action. The Skyhawks are 0-29 all-time against the Rangers with the closest game being an 18-17 double overtime loss on April 20, 2012.

Scouting UCCS
The Mountain Lions are 4-10 this season, 3-5 in RMAC play, and enter the week having lost four straight. Last week, UCCS dropped games to Colorado Mesa (17-6) and Westminster (20-16). The team is led by Julia Patrick who has 38 goals and 10 assists to her credit. Following closely behind is Brielle Fannin with 28 goals and 16 assists.

Patrick is the team's leader with 41 draw controls, followed by Erica Rivera with 29. Goalkeeper Madison McGriff paces the squad with 59 ground balls and has played every minute in goal for the Mountain Lions. She owns a goals-against average of 15.20 to go along with a saves percentage of .435.

When the teams met in late March, UCCS ran away with a 16-10 win on Ray Dennison Memorial Field. Dostie led all players with seven goals, followed by three Skyhawks with one goal apiece. Fort Lewis trails the all-time series 6-2 and has lost six straight at the hands of UCCS.

What's at Stake
With the RMAC Tournament looming, it will come down to the results this weekend to determine the field of four. The only programs that are a lock for postseason play are Regis and Colorado Mesa who both own an 8-1 mark in conference play. From there, Westminster sits 4-5 with a game versus Colorado Mesa slated for Saturday. Should the Griffins win, they would move to 5-5. If they are to lose, they would move to 4-6 and within striking distance of UCCS and Fort Lewis.

Fort Lewis and UCCS have identical 3-5 records in conference play to land in a tie for fourth. UCCS will face CSU Pueblo and Fort Lewis this weekend. Should the Mountain Lions win both they will move to 5-5. A split would put them at 4-6, and two losses would produce a 3-7 record. It is the same scenario for the Skyhawks. If there is a tie in the rankings, it would move to a head-to-head determiner. In this case, the conference would look at the result of the head-to-head results of the teams that are tied. If that does not break the tie, the next breaker would be goal differential in those head-to-head contests.

Inside the Numbers
Junior Haley Dostie leads the conference with a goals-per-game average of 3.73 in addition to a 4.27 points-per-game average. Freshman Valerie Garcia ranks eighth in the conference in assists per game at .80. Senior Rebecca Kiyokawa ranks eighth in the conference in draw controls per game with 3.18 and is coming off a career-high with nine last Saturday. Freshman Samantha Rodgers is averaging 1.44 caused turnovers per game to rank fourth in the RMAC. Senior Averi Basso is second in the conference with 9.82 saves per game and fourth in saves percentage at .429.

Up Next
Should Fort Lewis advance to the RMAC Tournament, competition would begin with the semifinals on Friday, May 7, followed by the championship game on Sunday, May 7. The high seed will host the entirety of the tournament.
